Pet Parrots-Are Budgies Really Considered Parrots?

When we think of pet parrots we generally think of the large parrots such as the macaw, African Gray Parrot or Cockatoo. The budgie, also known as the Budgerigar or parakeet really is a part of the parrot family.

The male budgie is easily recognized by his blue cere. The female cere is generally beige changing to brown when she is mating. Although both are known to be able to sing and mimic sounds it is the male who is the most proficient of the two. A male budgie can learn from a few sentences to hundreds of sentences depending on his environment.

As with all pet parrots the more attention that is given to them in training the more they are able to learn to talk. If you purchase two budgies to keep one from getting lonely you will not have the same results if trying to teach your pet parrots to talk. They will just not have any interest if they have their favorite bird buddy around them.

If you purchase your male budgie as a single pet you will find to your surprise that he picks up words and sentences very quickly and can speak with quite a bit of clarity.

The good thing about budgies also, is that they make great pets for children. When thinking of pet parrots for your child, the budgie should be at the top of your list. These little pet parrots are small and easy to handle and very easy to train to do little tricks. Budgies certainly are a joy to have around the house and your children will learn to love them dearly. So when thinking about purchasing pet parrots for your children please don’t forget the good natured budgie.

Always Remember, that good things come in small packages.
